Cyclone Alfred - Emergency Plans

Cyclone Alfred – Emergency Plans

(5-Mar-2025 5:00 PM AEST)

As you may know, Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to cross the coastline between Sunshine Coast and Brisbane sometime Wednesday and Friday this week. It is currently a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone. If it does cross the coastline, this will be the first time in 33 years that South East Queensland has had a cyclone reach land.

While it is important to be prepared, it is important not to panic. Many cyclones ‘fizzle out’ before they reach land, often downgrading to a rain depression or ‘Low’ with moderate to heavy rain and winds. The weather forecasters cannot yet say what Alfred will do, so they are asking people to be vigilant and take extra precautions.

At this stage, service provision for all clients will continue as per normal. We will keep you updated on the weather and any changes that might need to made for the safety of our clients and staff.

What does Category 2 Tropical Cyclone mean?

Destructive winds. Minor house damage. Significant damage to signs, trees and caravans. Heavy damage to some crops. Risk of power failure. Small craft may break moorings.
Maximum mean wind speed 89–117 km/h.
Typical strongest gust 125–164 km/h.
